Cleansing your crystals; How to cleanse your crystals and remove negative energy. When you first receive crystals you should take time to cleanse them, to remove any negative energy they may have picked up on their travels. (our crystals are packed with positivity but you can never be sure!)
When you use your crystals on a regular basis, it is also a good idea to cleanse them from time to time, particularly if you have just had a period of negativity.
Methods of cleansing crystals
Moonlight
One of our favourite methods is to use the light from a full moon. Place them outside or on an open windowsill in the light of the full moon. It is best to do this for a couple of nights as a good 24 hours of light will be beneficial.
Sunlight
You can also charge the crystals under sunlight if you prefer. Moonlight is good for healing and reflection and sunlight for passion and action. (remember that some crystals can fade under prolonged sunlight)
Water
(as long as your chosen crystal is waterproof) – rainwater or running water is good. Simply hold the crystal under the running water to allow the negative energy to wash away.
Salt
Use a salt bath or a circle of salt or bury your crystal in salt. Salt is widely believed to be a metaphysical purification tool. (Always check that your stone is not porous, as saltwater can damage the stone).
For a salt bath, dissolve a teaspoon of salt in some lukewarm water into your chosen dish. Soak your crystal for a few minutes and then rinse with non-saline water and dry carefully.
For a salt circle, place your crystal on your chosen plate or dish and pour enough salt around it to form a circle. Leave the crystal for a few hours to allow the cleansing. We advise giving it a final rinse with flowing water and drying carefully.
You can also bury your crystal for a few hours, completely covering it in salt. Once it is cleansed, again, rinse in flowing non-saline water and dry. Always check that your crystal is not porous before doing this!
Other crystals
You can use other crystals to cleanse your stones. Clear quartz and selenite have purification qualities that are thought to cleanse other stones placed near them. You can place your crystals on a selenite dish or wand, or store clear quartz with your other crystals or stack quartz on top.
Smudge Stick
You can use a smudge stick (Sage) to ‘bathe’ the crystals in purifying smoke. Light the sage and gently blow the smoke back and forth over the crystals. Use white sage for this purpose, not the stuff you use for cooking!
EARTH
You can bury crystals in the earth to ground them. The earth will absorb any negative energy. We recommend 24 hours to fully cleanse, just don’t forget where you buried them!
Visualisation
One of the simplest ways is visualising cleansing your stones and crystals. This can be done just before you begin to program your crystals, as part of the process. It is also useful when it’s not a full moon or when you don’t have salt to hand.
Hold the crystal in your hand, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Then imagine light flowing over the stone to ‘wash’ it. Think positive energy.
